According to Evolution’s first-quarter earnings report, total revenue rose to €521 million—an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period last year. Despite this upward revenue trend, net profit dropped 5.4% to €254.7 million, driven by the firm’s decision to voluntarily exit unregulated or grey markets across Europe.

“On top of what we have already done in the UK to meet regulatory requirements, we have taken proactive and self-initiated actions in February to ring-fence additional regulated markets in Europe,” said Evolution CEO Martin Carlesund.

The strategic retreat affected European revenue most sharply. In Q1, the company generated €189.7 million from the region—a 1% decrease year-on-year and a 6% drop compared to the previous quarter. This underscores the uneven short-term impact of the company’s realignment toward fully compliant jurisdictions.

Carlesund further explained that the revenue slowdown was most pronounced in regions with low “channelisation”—markets where a significant portion of gambling occurs through unregulated or offshore platforms. “The effects have varied, with the largest negative revenue impact in markets where channelisation is low,” he added.

Despite these immediate challenges, Evolution’s pivot is widely seen as a long-term play to ensure stability and compliance amid tightening European regulations.
