Colombia Enhances Safer Gambling Protections with New Agreement

Colombia’s National Council of Games of Luck and Chance (Coljuegos) and the National Superintendence of Health have announced a new agreement aimed at strengthening protections against gambling harm. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve surveillance and control within the country’s gambling industry.

The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on enhancing the surveillance of territorial games. The agreement also seeks to foster improved collaboration for the exchange of information and technical knowledge. Additionally, it introduces tighter controls for the providers of Raspa&Listo games, ensuring more robust oversight and regulation.

Luis Carlos Leal, Superintendent of Health, commented on the agreement: “After multiple days of work, today we signed an agreement to fight corruption and improve the collection to protect the fundamental resource to the health of Colombians. It is important to articulate efforts in the National Government to move towards health protection in the country.”

As highlighted by SBC Noticias, Coljuegos has made significant contributions to the public health sector. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, the organization contributed a total of COP 147.04bn (£28mn) through lottery and Raspa&Listo games. This figure represents an 8 percent increase year-over-year compared to the same period in the previous year.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “This significant increase in the resources transferred is due to the joint work carried out by both the operators and the National Council of Games of Luck and Chance. We are providing guarantees to strengthen the industry in the territories and increase money for health.”
