In a significant legal development, Taiwanese gaming equipment supplier Jumbo Technology has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Evolution, alleging that its popular Lightning-branded games violate Jumbo’s patent on a “dynamic raised odds” feature. The lawsuit, which was filed on May 29, 2025, in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, claims that Evolution’s Lightning games, including Lightning Roulette, Lightning Baccarat, and Lightning Dice, use a patented system developed by Jumbo Technology that randomly enhances odds in casino games.
The patent at the heart of the dispute, US Patent No. 9,646,459, was granted in 2017 and covers a system designed to randomly generate enhanced odds for games like roulette, baccarat, and dice. Jumbo’s legal team argues that the patented feature adds excitement and unpredictability to the game outcomes, transforming traditional casino formats into dynamic and more engaging experiences. According to Jumbo, this system boosts player engagement by offering intermittent, higher payouts while still maintaining profitability for operators.
