In the fiscal year ending June 2025, Pennsylvania set a new record, generating an impressive $6.4 billion in gambling revenue, as reported by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). This marks a significant 8.5% increase from the previous year’s $5.9 billion. The growth has been largely driven by online gambling and sports betting, which now make up nearly 40% of the state’s total revenue.
The expansion of internet-based gaming has seen considerable success since its official tally in 2020, rising from just $240 million that year to nearly $2.5 billion in the latest fiscal period. Notably, Hollywood Casino at Penn National led the charge with $936 million in online revenue, reflecting a nearly 25% year-over-year increase. However, traditional forms of gambling, such as table games and slot machines, showed slower growth.
Table game revenue saw a modest decline of 3.4%, totaling $929 million, while slot machines generated a flat growth of under 1%, bringing in $2.4 billion. Despite these slower categories, Pennsylvania also reported $2.8 billion in gambling tax revenue, which exceeds last year’s record and is being utilized to support various state initiatives, including school property tax reductions and economic development projects.
