Jumbo Interactive, a powerful digital retailer of national jackpot lotteries and charity lotteries in Australia, has taken another important step in its plan to expand into the United Kingdom market.

That step was represented by the hiring of a senior executive that is expected to lead the company’s efforts to integrate into the United Kingdom charities market. Nigel Atkinson is the man that Jumbo Interactive appointed as United Kingdom General Manager, and his role is to oversee all the company’s operations in this territory. Nigel Atkinson has over 20 years of experience in the digital technology sector, and has held senior roles both in technical and commercial divisions.

The new general manager will also be responsible for the management of Gatherwell, Jumbo Interactive’s subsidiary in the United Kingdom. Gatherwell was acquired by Jumbo Interactive in 2019, and in 2020 the Australian company received a remote gambling software operating licence from the British Gambling Commission.

Jumbo’s focus on the United Kingdom market comes at a moment when the charity sector faces serious challenges due to the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic. In order to address those challenges, Jumbo will try to combine the company’s expertise from running government lotteries in Australia with Gatherwell’s experience with local causes and schools in the United Kingdom. In short, the company’s operation in the United Kingdom is designed to make it easy for charities and good causes to set up a lottery and generate sustainable income.

A Sustainable Fundraising Solution For Charities

After making the appointment official, Nigel Atkinson, the new U.K. General Manager at Jumbo Interactive, underlined that society lotteries are a vital source of income and “a low-risk, sustainable fundraising solution” for charities.

“We are excited to further develop our presence in the UK, and make our software and services available to support more charities back into good health – whatever their size,” the new U.K. general manager added.

Richard Bateson, Chief Commercial Officer at Jumbo Interactive, expressed his excitement at the addition of Nigel Atkinson to the company’s executive team. “Nigel’s digital knowledge and expertise, coupled with our ambitions in the UK market, will help us support charities and not for profits with their fundraising and incentive giving programmes at this very important time,” Bateson added.

Jumbo Interactive recorded revenue of just under 41 million Australian dollars in the six months to 31 December 2020, which represented an increase of 8.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) for the first half of the 2020-2021 fiscal year was 23.1 million dollars, up by just 0.9% year-on-year.
